Gallery 412 To Present "News Works by Jack Dowis"

Gallery 412 of the Florence Regional Arts Alliance will open "News Works by Jack Dowis" from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 4. The show includes 48 works completed by the artist since January of 2010 and offers art lovers a rare opportunity to enjoy so large and diverse a grouping of works by Dowis en masse. A retired architect, Dowis has had an avocational interest in drawing and painting for most of his adult life. In addition to exhibiting in groups shows and one-artist shows, he is a regular contributor to competitive exhibitions and has won a significant number of awards. In addition, Dowis has devoted much of the last 50 years to concerted efforts with respec to the advancement of the arts in his community, region, and state. He was instrumental in the founding ad organization of the Florence Area Arts Council. He is an Honorary Trustee of the Florence Museum and served from 1960 to 1970 and again from 1972 to 1975 as President of the Museum and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. When the South Carolina Arts Commission was organized in 1967, he was one of the orginial commissioners appointed by Govenor John C. West, and he served three years as Chairman of the Selection Committee for the State Arts Commission.

Concerts In The Park To Present 12 Percent

The Florence Regional Arts Alliance Honda of South Carolina Concerts In The Park will present 12 Percent from 3:00 until 4:30 pm on Sunday, November 7 in the Main Gallery of the Florence Museum at 558 Spruce Street. 12 Percent is are performers who aim to please. The acoustic trio pull from a vast catalog of cover tunes and styles. Wherever they perform, they bring down the house. The Name "12 Present" stems from an idea Rob Bispo had to take Jason Hill's solo act and broaden it. When the solo act was broadened, "12 Percent" was born. Members include Jason Hill, lead vocals and guitar; Rob Bispo, bass and vocals; and Phil Miller, drums and vocals. Together the three performers have over 40 years of playing experience. And that experience is guaranteed to get a crowd really going!

Gallery 412 To Open October Show featuring Uschi Jeffcoat, Mollie Jerr Ludlam, and Minnemie Murphy

From 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, October 7, Gallery 412 of the Florence Regional Arts Alliance will open a month-long show featuring the works of Uschi Jeffcoat, Molly Jerr Ludlam, and Minnemie Murphy. On display at The Arts Alliance facility at 412 South Dargan, the show features 64 works by the three talented emerging artists. There is no admission charge, so take advantage of a great opportunity to experience the quality work being created by artists from right here in the immediate community. And because most of the works are for sale, this just might be the right time to start or grow that personal collection for your home or your office.

Honda of South Carolina Concerts In The Park To Feature Melanie McMillan and M Theory

On Sunday, September the 12th from 3 to 4 pm, join with your fellow citizens from across the community, and sit back in chairs or lie back on blankets with a well stocked hamper of munchies and non-alcoholic beverages nearby as together we enjoy the vocal stylings of singer-songwriter Melanie McMillan and instrumental support provided by the remarkably fine musicians of M Theory. It will be a memorable afternoon of music. It's the Honda of South Carolina Concerts In The Park, and it's sponsored by the Florence Regional Arts Alliance in collaboration with the City of Florence Parks and Beautification and the Florence Museum. It's a monthly gift to the community, and it provides one of those wonderful opportunities to enjoy that exceptional talent of those living in our own community as well as those living in the Southeast. When talent sings, plays an instrument, speaks, dances, or expresses themselves in a myriad of other artistic ways, we mere mortals savor the gift of the Muses and often come really close to experiencing the sublime. Amongst all the materials related to the upcoming exhibition, I just unearthed a really great artist's statement by Pollie Bristow: "Being an artist, I will never grow old because I am always learning and am a quintessential student. My art journey has taken me to many places with many detours, stops, and surprises along the way. Boring, never! I don't always know my path, but I am surely having fun getting there." Pollie's statement should make the Opening of "The Perspectives of Pollie Bristow" from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, September 2 a must for all who follow and embrace the visual arts, whether as practitioners or as purchasers or as aficionados. On display at The Arts Alliance's facility at 412 South Dargan Street in Downtown Florence, the show includes 41 works that the artist calls non-representational but which are probably more accurately termed abstract impressionism. Regardless of how the works are described, the show is one that should be experienced by all who enjoy and appreciate the visual arts. Support the arts by attending the September 2 Opening from 6:00-8:00 pm. Although contributions are appreciated, the Opening is free to all who attend, so take advantage of this great opportunity to experience quality work that has been created by a seasoned and prolific artist from right here in the immediate community.
